Scott Fortner is a life-long Marilyn Monroe fan,
enthusiast, and collector. Considered an authority on Marilyn Monroe,
Fortner is often called upon by world-wide news agencies, including Reuters and
the Associated Press, to comment on current Marilyn Monroe topics. In
addition, he assists major auction companies in authenticating and verifying
memorabilia, Marilyn Monroe owned items and Marilyn Monroe autographs.
In 2010, Fortner was showcased in a feature
photography project, "Marilyn
& I," shot by French photographer Yury Toroptsov. The photos
were
exhibited in Paris in 2012.
In 2011, he was a guest of the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences, where he presented to a packed audience at the
Linwood Dunn Theater attending a viewing of never-before-seen behind the scenes
footage of Marilyn Monroe on the set of Bus Stop, taken by her then business partner
Milton Greene. The footage was presented as part of
Hollywood Home Movies III: Treasures from the Academy Film Archive Collection.
Also in 2011, Fortner was showcased for the
independent documentary, "With Her," produced and directed by French filmmaker
Laurent Morlet.
The production is scheduled for release in February of 2012. He also participated in the
Travel Channel's "Mysteries
at The Museum" series, as part of a special report focusing on the death of
Marilyn Monroe.
"I never dreamed that at some point in my life I
would own an item that was formerly owned by the biggest star of the
twentieth century, let alone amass an entire collection of her possessions. The closest I'd
come previously to owning an item from the now world famous Christie's sale, "The
Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe," was the August 16, 1999 issue of
People magazine with a cover story about the auction and many photos of
Marilyn's belongings. While I've collected my entire life, amazingly, my
"higher level" collecting aspirations came to
fruition in 2001 with my very first purchase of a Monroe owned item: Marilyn's personal
script for Maiden
Voyage, a Broadway play she was offered in 1956. The script sold originally
at the '99 Christie's sale. Since that first purchase in 2001 I've been
lucky enough to add to my collection regularly.
I feel privileged to own these pieces
and I'm happy to share them with visitors to
MarilynMonroeCollection.com. I hope you enjoy
your visit here."
While her public image is known to many, it is her private life that has always
held our attention, and thus is the focus of this collection. Items are acquired mostly at auction; Christie's, Julien's, Bonhams.
Fortner continues to seek
items to add to the collection, a never ending quest to celebrate and remember
the life of a truly amazing woman.
